Sandi Luck – Textile Artist

Sandi creates textile assemblages of silk, linen and cotton, using a variety of techniques including hand dye, paint and silk-screen, needle felt or digital print. Simple shapes are printed, re-configured and appliquéd into wall pieces, small furnishings or wearable art. They are embellished with beads, buttons and found objects and may be hand or machine stitched, slashed or burned. Recent explorations with felting have led to a series of wearable art including playful flower pins, corset style belts, arm cuffs, hats and booties.
Sandi’s traditional working background is in the applied arts, with many years experience in architectural design for both residential and commercial applications. In addition she is an accomplished graphic designer. Her formal post secondary education includes fine arts, psychology, interior design, certificates in Textile Surface Design and Sustainable Building Design from Fleming College and numerous workshops in various arts medium. She has been sewing since childhood and learned to weave as a young adult. Attaining the magical age of fifty involved a career change and turned lifelong dabbling in the fine arts to a full time pursuit.
“I like people to smile when they see my work. Using bold colours and lush fabrics with an overabundance of pattern, texture and trim transforms the everyday into the fantastic. By multi-layering simple shapes and numerous fabrics I create complex pieces with hidden depths that allow the viewer to explore the joy of imaginary worlds.”
