Janet Trull – Painter – Burnt Bear Studio

Janet Trull -  Burnt Bear Studio

Janet Trull is a visual artist working in fluid acrylics and mixed media.  Interpreting the colours and textures of Haliburton landscapes, she layers her canvases in the rough and random way that nature layers the forests.  There is much beauty in chaos.

Janet has her Visual Arts Specialist accreditation from Brock University and has conducted art workshops for children from kindergarten age to grade 8.   Her workshops often include drama and storytelling as part of the creative process.

My artwork celebrates the chaos of nature; layered, scraped, built-up, resurfaced.  I have an interest in the way people strive to control their surroundings.  We deceive ourselves into thinking, for example, that a hospital, sterile and orderly, can conquer the random cruelty of disease. I prefer the forest, where nobody tidies up.  Trees fall and die and decompose among the skunk cabbage and soon, new little seedlings force their way toward sunlight.

Vines corkscrew around branches, pulling and strangling; a messy texture of generational creation and destruction that won’t be disguised. The forest isn’t trying to fool anyone.  The river flows on, ambivalent to cancer or war or poverty.   Through my art, the beauty and strength of nature unfold.
